Process Oriented Psychology or Process Work

Psychological counseling can be a solid support during life’s difficult situations. Sharing our fears and emotional needs can help alleviate suffering and point the way towards recovery. Understanding and experiencing how the creative and healthy aspects of who we are can help the suffering part of ourselves gives us strength to proceed on our life path. With the therapist’s help, you will learn how to better access that part of yourself that gives you strength to deal with life’s difficulties. The goal is to heal in the sense of improving your quality of life by becoming a more complete self and broadening your mind and soul. Dealing with dreams, body experiences and relationship processes supports personal growth. Like humanistic psychology, process work is centered in the here and now. It also relates to body-centered and systemic therapy in the handling of our body’s signals and systemic interactions in relationships or groups.

The actual session
A session will start with the client talking about his or her troubles and symptoms. During this process, the therapist will observe the signals the client is sending out in an attentive, non-judgmental way. Thus, the meaning behind them will be revealed and can point toward possibilities for healing and growth. The «mes-sage» of the body or the unconscious is decoded. This experience and new awareness will be integrated into the next steps of your everyday life.

«Der erfahrbare Atem» by Prof. Ilse Middendorf Berlin
If the body longs for relaxation and flowing trust, I like to work with «Der Erfahrbare Atem» («tangible breath»). By perceiving our body moving through breathing, we can find creative solutions that open places where fear and blockages stop us.
